With over thirty five years experience, Katja has established herself as one of Australia's most highly regarded gilders. She has consistently produced exceptional frames for works by prominent artists, including Brett Whitely, Sydney Nolan and John Olsen, to name only a few.
She continues to make and restore frames using her unique skills, with a passion for quality and artistry.

WATER GILDING
Water gilding is an ancient craft that has been used for centuries on furniture, interiors and the very best picture frames. It is an exacting method of placing very fine beaten sheets of 23ct gold onto a meticulously prepared surface, requiring a great deal of skill and experience to execute at the highest standard. Katja completed 5 years of study at Schule fur Gestaltung in Bern, Switzerland and spent over 25 years producing hand crafted traditional and contemporary frames, working for Rod Eastgate and Jillian Holst, who owned and operated Jarmans in Melbourne until 2014.
RESTORATION, OIL GILDING & CUSTOM FRAMING
Older frames are quite often in need of repair, whether it's a simple clean or a major reconstruction, Katja has extensive experience in bringing frames back to their former glory, using traditional methods and an eye for authenticity.
Other services include Oil Gilding with dutch metal (a widely used alternative to water gilding) and Custom Framing. Timber frames are produced in a range of elegant and contemporary stained, gesso, oil and water gilded finishes.
